People think Macbeth killed all of those innocent people because Lady Macbeth compelled him to do that. However, I state that Macbeth made his own choices. Lady Macbeth just made it faster to happen. Lady Macbeth had power first, then Mcbeth took it. After that, they lost their power in the end of play. We can see that their struggle for power shifted throughout the play. The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth can be broken into three different periods. The first period was made up of Lady Macbeth from Act 1 and Act 2. Lady Macbeth was viewed as very controlling, strong. She had all the power. The second one is from Act 3 and Act 4. In those two acts Lady Macbeth’s weaknesses were coming through. Macbeth took her power.The last one is from Act 5, Lady Macbeth felt guilty. She was sleepwalking and talking weird. Macbeth was scared too. No one had power at this time. Lady Macbeth definitely had all the power between her and her husband in Act 1 and Act 2. Early Christians adopted this concept to foretell of the spiritual things in order to acquire habits of virtue. Virtue is the behavior showing high moral standards. In Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller uses common objects as symbols between the main characters in his play. Women's stockings and their holes symbolize the failing relationship between Willy and his wife. Seeds in a garden symbolize Willy's declining sense of self-worth and his need to leave something significant behind after his death. The tennis racket Willy observes when he chats with Bernard in Charley's office is a symbol of Bernard's success and Biff's failure. Finally, the fountain pen is a symbol of the burden Willy's son Biff carries as he tries to live up to his father's image even though he never wants to inhabit that role. Linda is always sewing her old stockings to fix their holes. The holes resemble the things in her life that are broken. Willy gets frustrated with Linda when she tries to fix the old stockings; he feels she should throw them out. He says: "Will you stop mending stockings? At least while I am in the house. It gets me nervous. I can't tell you. Please" (75). Willy's reaction to the sewing suggests the guilt he feels for having an affair - he gave a pair of Linda's stockings to his mistress. To Biff, who witnessed that transaction, stockings represent betrayal and deep hurt. "You-you gave her mama's stockings" (121). Biff becomes aware that his father is messing around with another women and becomes very emotional. It almost seems that the stockings are the reason for Biff's anger. It also important note the new stockings are important for Willy's pride in being financially successful and thus able to provide for his family. The seeds that Willy constantly talks about throughout the entire play are very significant to him. Seeds represent for Willy the opportunity to prove the worth of his labor, both as a salesman and a father. Willy is afraid when he dies he will have nothing to leave his family. Willy thinks that when he dies that there will be no one to put food on the table, so the vegetables are his attempt of doing so. Throughout the play you can notice Willy is always talking about the seeds and seems as if he is in a rush to plant the seeds, I think that is because every time he talks about seeds he is closer to the time he plans to commit his suicide. The seeds also symbolize Willy's sense of failure with Biff. Willy planned on raising Biff to be a smart salesman, but Biff got into trouble for stealing and Willy blames himself for raising his son, in what he thinks is the wrong way. The fountain pen symbolizes dishonesty and greed in the business world. After Biff steals the pen and he is on the stairs, he thinks to himself that he doesn't want to be in the same position as his dad and be unhappy and miserable in his life. Biff comes to understand that the American dream only creates emptiness and frustration. The fountain pen also stands for a changing point for Biff and he returns the pen to the office and leaves. You can see this because at the end of the play Biff wants to reconcile with his dad and not argue like they always do. Especially since Biff already knows about his father's affair with the mistress, he does a good job of changing his attitude and keeping cool. "Every time I've left it's been a fight that sent me out of here" (128). This just simply shows that Biff and Willy constantly get into fights and Biff wants to actually change that. "The Jungle is dark but full of diamonds" (85). The diamonds are the second biggest symbol in this play. Ben rubs the diamonds in Willy's face throughout the play. Willy is frustrated because he doesn't have any tangible evidence to show for his achievements in sales, while Ben can physically show his diamonds off.

Liquid Nitrogen Temperature Liquid nitrogen is very cold! At normal atmospheric pressure, nitrogen is a liquid between 63 K and 77.2 K (-346 °F and -320.44 °F). Over this temperature range, liquid nitrogen looks much like boiling water. Below 63 K, it freezes into solid nitrogen. Because liquid nitrogen in a usual setting is boiling, its usual temperature is 77 K. Liquid nitrogen boils into nitrogen vapor at room temperature and pressure. The cloud of vapor that you see isnt steam or smoke. Steam is invisible water vapor, while smoke is a product of combustion. The cloud is water that has condensed out of the air from exposure to the cold temperature around the nitrogen. Cold air cannot hold as much humidity as warmer air, so a cloud forms. Being Safe With Liquid Nitrogen Liquid nitrogen is not toxic, but it does present some hazards. First, as the liquid changes phase into a gas, the concentration of nitrogen in the immediate area increases. The concentration of other gases decreases, particularly near the floor, since cold gases are heavier than warmer gases and sink. An example of where this can present a problem is when liquid nitrogen is used to create a fog effect for a pool party. If only a small amount of liquid nitrogen is used, the temperature of the pool is unaffected and the excess nitrogen is blown away by a breeze. If a large amount of liquid nitrogen is used, the concentration of oxygen at the surface of the pool might be reduced to the point where it can cause breathing problems or hypoxia. Another hazard of liquid nitrogen is that the liquid expands to  174.6 times its original volume when it becomes a gas. Then, the gas expands another 3.7 times as it warms to room temperature. The total increase in volume is 645.3 times, which means vaporizing nitrogen exerts immense pressure on its surroundings. Liquid nitrogen should never be stored in a sealed container because it could burst. Finally, because liquid nitrogen is so very cold, it presents an immediate danger to living tissue. The liquid vaporizes so quickly a small amount will bounce off the skin on a cushion of nitrogen gas, but a large volume can cause frostbite. Cool Liquid Nitrogen Uses The quick vaporization of nitrogen means all of the element boils off when you make liquid nitrogen ice cream. The liquid nitrogen makes the ice cream cold enough to turn into a solid, but it doesnt actually remain as an ingredient. Another cool effect of the vaporization is that liquid nitrogen (and other cryogenic liquids) appear to levitate. This is due to the Leidenfrost effect, which is when a liquid boils so rapidly, its surrounded by a cushion of gas. Liquid nitrogen splashed onto the floor appears to skitter away just over the surface. There are videos where people throw liquid nitrogen out onto a crowd. No one is harmed because the Leidenfrost effect prevents any of the super-cold liquid from touching them.

Effect of stigma on people with mental illness in the UK - Dissertation Example The intention of this study is mental illness as one of the major concerns in global disease burden. It has a significant impact in the quality of life of people suffering from mental illness and yet there is the prevalence of low levels of treatment seeking and follow-through among patients. Thus, stigma contributes to the continued exclusion and dehumanisation of people who are suffering from mental illness.... In this regard, this study intends to address the question what are the effects of stigma on people with mental illness in the UK? Rationale Stigma is one of the major reasons why people with mental disorders does not seek treatment, are reluctant in attending follow through and are experiencing continued exclusion and dwindling quality of life (Lauber & Satorious 2007; Pinto-Foltz & Logsdon 2008; Ross & Goldner 2009). This condition gives rise to the urgency of the need to attain a better understanding of the effects of stigma to people who are suffering from mental disorders. This is essential in order to authentically address their predicament, and create a platform wherein their voices may be expressed and heard. The â€Å"Porter’s five forces† combined give the competing companies the possibility to make profits with a low risk of entry and a weak bargaining power of suppliers. The intense rivalry between them and the strong bargaining power of buyers has a negative impact over the prices, which can lower the companies’ revenues. The most interesting thing about this case was the struggle of the global delivery company DHL, to enter the United States market. It was interesting to see how a big company could spend an enormous amount of money to purchase all the equipment necessary for a distribution system, and yet not being able to succeed in gaining the market share. Risk of entry by potential competitors In the small package express delivery industry the barriers to entry are high which makes the risk of entry by potential competitors a weak force. The economies of scale in this industry are attained by only three companies, FedEx, UPS and DHL. They developed complex air and ground delivery networks, which are expensive to establish for new entrants; this gives the leading firms an absolute cost advantage in the industry. DHL, a huge name in the European delivery market, is an example of failure in this aspect. After buying Airborne Express for $1 billion and spending $1. 5 billion upgrading it, DHL was forced to get out of the market because of the losses it encountered during 5 years of struggling. Following this event the, North American express delivery industry became dominated by FedEx and UPS. One major element of the barriers to entry is the government regulations. Federal Express waited three years to get the right to fly planes from Memphis to Tokyo, and it got restricted to only 70 lbs per package. Tough government regulations make it difficult for new companies to enter the industry or in different markets, and it can increase the costs of operations as well. When the force of risk of entry of potential competitors is weak, the profitability of the companies that are already competing within the industry increase. Rivalry among established companies The rivalry among established companies is very strong in the small package express industry. The industry is consolidated, dominated by three large companies, FedEx and UPS in the US and DHL in Europe, which are interdependent. Consolidated industry increase rivalry among established firms because one company’s competitive action, such as a change in price, directly affect the market share of its rivals. This can lead to price war, which means that one company follows suit when the other companies lowers the prices. In 1983, UPS offered next-day air service at half a price of its competitors. In order to keep up, Federal Express followed and cut the prices to match UPS prices. This lead to a price war among competitors, which diminished profitability of the companies competing in this consolidated industry. Bargaining power of buyers The bargaining power of buyers in this industry is a strong force. When the buyers purchase in large quantities, they are able to bargain and reduce the prices. An example discussed in the case is Xerox, which negotiated a lower price for express delivery of its products because of the high volume of the orders and was able to get as much as 60% discounts. The strong force of bargaining power of buyers in the small packages express delivery industry leads to lower prices and less profitability. Bargaining power of suppliers The bargaining power of suppliers in the small package express industry is weak. One example discussed in the case is the acquisition of the retail stores Mail Boxes Etc by UPS, which allowed UPS to have a direct contact with the consumers who needed its services. Another example is the Federal Express purchase of Flying Tigers, an international supplier with which Federal Express was working with at that time. This allowed the package express company to reduce the cost of its operations and build a global air express network. By eliminating the direct suppliers with the vertically integrated strategy, the company gains more profits and control. This weak force in the bargaining power of suppliers allow for greater profits for the companies operating within the industry. Substitute products The threats of substitutes in the small package express delivery industry within US and global market is neutral. The evolution of technology over the past few decades has produced several substitute products to small package delivery. The first substitute that was introduces was the fax machines, which made the transfer of documents easier and faster. The internet, a big substitute of the document delivery via email, but it also created online shopping which led to increased demand of the small package delivery industry. This gave the industry the opportunity to gain additional profits and replace the profits lost through the innovation of the fax and email. Conclusions and recommendations In the small package delivery industry, the established companies will continue to play an important role within the industry and their profits will increase, because of the weak bargaining power of suppliers and the high barriers of entry by potential competitors. Frank and his family wore nothing more than rags and the little food they had came from the charity of kind people. His mother, Angela didn’t work and his father always drank his paycheck away. Even with out steady income to support one child, the McCourt family kept on growing extending to Malachy, Margaret, the twins- Eugene and Oliver, and eventually Michael and Alphonsus. Thus, beginning at a young age, Frank had the responsibility of tending to his brothers and sisters while his mother was desperately trying to find food to feed the family, and his father was getting drunk in the bars.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Although Frank’s father was not around for most of Frank’s life, Malachy did nurture in Frank an appetite for the one thing he could provide: a story. Throughout Angela’s Ashes Frank lives for his father’s tales of Cuchulain and The Angel on the Seventh Step, Frank’s very own angel who also brings his mother babies. â€Å"Would the Angel on the Seventh Step tell you what to do, if you didn’t know what to do?† â€Å"He would son, he would. That’s the job of an angel. Ye are to tell the world there isn’t a scrap of food in this house, not a lump of coal to start the fire, not a drop of milk for the baby’s bottle.† (Pg.183-184) Life for the McCourts was testing and difficult. The children wore rags for diapers, Malachy and Frank wore torn shoes in the winter, and Angela was forced to gather scraps of coal and paper from the roadside just to light a fire.

Sunshine and Shadow

New York: Sunshine and Shadow The â€Å"Sunshine and Shadow† section of the New York Documentary series by Ric Burns was certainly named for a purpose. Right at the start of the documentary section, it is made clear why the contrasting themes of sunshine and shadow are appropriate for New York in 1865. In the â€Å"Gilded Age† of America, there were two components of life in New York City. There was the image that was made visible to the general public and outsiders, which was the extreme wealth and expansion going on in the city at the time.This portion of the city is representative of the â€Å"sunshine†, symbolizing success, visibility, and fortune. Secondly, there was the latter part of life in New York City, the seemingly masked and forgotten aspect of New York City at the time, which was the poverty. This era in New York City marked a grossly contrasting socioeconomic age, with those living far beyond their needs, and the vast amount of poor living far belo w the poverty line. The rich businessmen in the city reaped millions from corruption, expansion, and laundering money, while the poor struggled to survive in packed tenements with large families.The poor worked constantly and brutally hard in low-paying factories, only to barely keep up with rent and food for their families. Corrupt businessmen such as Cornelius Vanderbilt and William Tweed illegally procured millions, redefining wealth, as the other half of New York City lived in disease and despair. There were mansions being built on 5th street, while several blocks away the other half of the New York City population struggled. Finally, in 1896, Jacob Riise published â€Å"How the Other Half Lives†, exposing the hidden aspects of life for the poor and sick in New York City.The publication contained real photos, taken of the tenements, bars, and homeless in the poor sections of New York. It brought to attention the unacceptability of the difference in lives of those in the à ¢â‚¬Å"sunshine† and those in the â€Å"shade†. The content in this documentary was represented extremely well, and it certainly displayed the feelings and happenings of New York City in 1865. The film did a good job of starting off explaining the contrast in wealth in the city during the time period, explaining the massive expansion and development of infrastructure that was occurring in the city at the time.It then moved on to the true happenings of the city at the time, which was the appalling poverty that plagued roughly half the city. The film was set up for a certain shock value, and it certainly demonstrated to the viewer the severity of the situation in the city. The documentary then went into further detail, thoroughly explaining the causes of the difference in wealth in the city. It did a very good job detailing the major events that explained the incredible wealth in the city at the time, such as the corruption and expansion.The documentary explained how place s such as the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park became stages for outsiders to see the scale on which wealth differed in the city. I believe that the best part of the documentary was the portion explaining and going into depth about the tenements and poverty in some parts of the city. It showed images that helped viewers translate the situation that they’re being told about into real images and events. I believe that Ric Burns did a great job representing the Gilded Age of New York City, and the â€Å"Sunshine and Shade† aspect of it.My reaction to the events of the time period consists of anger and disappointment. I believe that America was supposed to stand for equal opportunity and a chance to succeed, but for immigrants new to the city, this was a falsity. Without pre-existing connections and job offers, the new world of New York City was nearly impossible for an immigrant to thrive in. As a result of the disproportion of wealth in the city, immigrants were simply t hrown into a growing pile of poverty.At the time period, the city needed presidential and governmental guidance and discipline, something that was clearly lacking. Thanks to overwhelming corruption and greed, the other half of the city was forgotten about and misused. The greed in the city at the time led to money being spent on the wrong things, leaving half of the population grossly uncared for. I certainly can say that I would not have wanted to live in this time period in New York City, despite it being the mecca of the United States at the time, and the center of expansion and growth.

How did the book help me overcome my weakness? †¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦.. 9 WEAKNESS The weakness on which I was working was pessimism. Pessimism is a state of mind in which one anticipates negative outcomes or believes that the evil, hardships, dangers, displeasures in life outweigh or dominate the good, luxuries, securities or pleasures in life. It affects ones thinking process adversely.It leads to loneliness, doubts on one’s own capabilities and con stant anxiety. I wanted to overcome this weakness, to develop self-confidence and redeem my self-esteem. This would fill my mind and eventually life with more optimism and happiness. WHY THIS BOOK? SYNOPSIS In the first chapter the author deals with the cause of feelings of inferiority and insecurity and ways to overcome them and build self confidence. Believe in yourself! The author says one should have faith in his abilities. To be successful and happy one must have a humble and reasonable confidence in his powers or capabilities.A sense of inferiority interferes in attainment of goals whereas self-confidence leads to self realization and thus further successful achievement. According to the author, the sources of inferiority complex are usually some emotional violence done to us in the past or the consequences of certain circumstances or something that we did to ourselves in the past. The author suggests that to build up feelings of self confidence in oneself the practice of sugg esting confidence concepts to one’s mind is very effective.A mind is obsessed by thoughts of insecurity and inadequacy because such ideas have dominated that person’s thinking over a long period of time. Hence, more positive pattern of ideas must be given to the mind and that is accomplished by repetitive suggestion of confidence ideas. Thus, disciplining the mind is required if one has to re-educate it and make it a power producing plant. We build up the feeling of security or insecurity by the way we think. In our thoughts we constantly fix attention upon sinister expectations of events that might happen, the result we constantly feel insecure.And we have a tendency to create by thought, the very condition we fear. Instead one can create positive results by vital thoughts of courage and confidence. Attitudes are more important than facts. Any fact facing us, however difficult, even seemingly hopeless, is not as important as our attitude toward that fact. How you thin k about a fact may defeat you before you ever do anything about it. The author further suggests going about your business on the assumption that what you have affirmed and visualized is true. Affirm it, visualize it, believe it, and it will actualize itself.Feelings of confidence depend on the type of thoughts that habitually occupy your mind. Think defeat and you are bound to feel defeated. But practice thinking confident thoughts and you will develop such a strong sense of capacity that regardless of what difficulties arise you will be able to overcome them. Feelings of confidence actually induce strength. Emerson said: â€Å"They conquer who believe they can† and â€Å"Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain†. Thus, practice confidence and faith and your fears and insecurities soon will have no power over you.In the first chapter, the author suggests following ways to overcome inferiority and to build up self-confidence: †¢ Picture yourself as su cceeding. †¢ Whenever a negative thought comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out. †¢ Do not build up obstacles in your imagination. Instead tear them down by tearing them apart. †¢ Do not compare yourself to others. †¢ Get a competent counselor to help you understand why you do what you do. Learn the origin of your inferiority and self-doubt feelings which often begin in childhood. Self- knowledge leads to a cure. Practice self-affirmations, for example, Yes, I can. Or I can do all things through belief in myself. †¢ Take an inventory of all the things you have going for you and begin to really appreciate your assets. Health, eyes, hearing, friends, family, son, house, shelter, food, income, transportation, intelligence etc. In the second chapter, the author talks about having a peaceful mind. The essence of the secret lies in a change of mental attitude. For this, one must learn to live on a different thought basis, however tho ught change requires effort.A life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress is the easiest type of existence. A primary method for gaining peace is to practice emptying the mind. Thus, practice emptying your mind of fears, hates, insecurities, regrets, and guilt feelings. After you have emptied your mind of all the old, unhappy thoughts immediately start refilling it with creative and healthy thoughts. The mere fact that you are consciously trying to empty your mind tends to give you relief. Also emptying your mind is not enough. Your mind cannot remain in a vacuum for long.Fill it with creative end healthy thoughts so that thoughts of fear, hates and worries do not enter. At intervals, practice thinking a selected series of peaceful thoughts or utter a series of peaceful words. They have a healing effect on your mind. Another way of developing serene and quiet attitudes is to watch your manner of speech. It is important to eliminate from conversations all negative ideas, for they tend to produce tension and annoyance inwardly. Peale also says to spend some quiet time each day relaxing, and not thinking about anything much.He says picture your mind as a pond and see if you can achieve the state of smoothness and no ripples. Fill your mind with all peaceful experiences possible, then make planned and deliberate excursions to them in memory. He continues, saturate your thoughts with peaceful experiences, peaceful words, and ideas, and ultimately you will have a storehouse of peace-producing experiences to which you may turn for refreshment and renewal of your spirit. It will be a vast source of power. On fear and guilt he says, the quantity of vital force required to give the ersonality relief from either guilt or fear or a combination of each is so great that often only a fraction of energy remains for living. The result is that he tires quickly. Not being able to meet the full requirements of his responsibility, he retreats into an apathetic, dull, listless condition and is indeed even ready to give up and fall back sleepily in a state of enervation. You must eradicate fear and guilt before you will ever be able to sleep and regain your strength. On happiness, he says, you can be unhappy if you want to. It is the easiest thing in the world to accomplish.Go around telling yourself that nothing is going well, that nothing is satisfactory, and you can be quite sure of being unhappy. But say to yourself, â€Å"Things are going nicely. Life is good. I choose happiness,† and you can be certain of having your choice. Peale says, â€Å"The happiness habit is developed by simply practicing happy thinking. Make a mental list of happy thoughts and pass them through your mind several times each day. If an unhappiness thought should cross your mind, immediately stop, consciously eject it, and substitute a happiness thought. The way to happiness: keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, and g ive much. Fill your life with love. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others. Do as you would be done by. Try this for a week and you will be surprised. † Peale recommends we think about what we want to do if we could do anything. And to think about what we are good at. He says that if you talk to your subconscious, you can convince it to change its mind about things. But that it is naturally very reluctant to do this. So you must be firm and persistent.He says to remember that â€Å"mighty oaks from little acorns grow†. He says that as a clean engine delivers power, so too a clean mind (free from negative thoughts, guilt, hate, bitterness, fear, etc. ). He believed the secret of achievement is to hold a picture of a successful outcome in mind. Peale gave few problem solving tips which could be summarized as: †¢ Believe that for every problem there is a solution. †¢ Keep calm. Tension blocks the flow of thought power. Your brain  cannot operate efficie ntly under stress. Go at your problem easy-like. †¢ Don't try to force an answer.Keep your mind relaxed so that the solution will open up and become clear. †¢ Assemble all the facts, impartially, impersonally, and judicially. †¢ List these facts on paper. This clarifies your thinking, bringing the various into orderly system. You see as well as think. †¢ Trust in the faculty of insight and intuition — believe in your own ability to come up with a satisfactory solution. Don't get paralyzed by focusing on the idea that you must have the â€Å"perfect† or the â€Å"best† solution. Probably several solutions would somehow work out. Irritation, anger, hate, and resentment have such a powerful effect in producing ill-health.It is to fill the mind with attitudes of good will, forgiveness, faith, love, and the spirit of imperturbability. Some suggestions include †¢ Deliberately, by an act of will, keep your hands from clenching. Hold your finger s out straight. Deliberately reduce your tone; bring it down to a whisper. Remember that it is hard to argue in a whisper. Slump in a chair, or even lie down if possible. It is very difficult to get mad lying down. †¢ Say aloud to yourself, â€Å"Don't be a fool. This won't get me anywhere, so skip it â€Å"Everything is okay. It is not that big a deal. Everything is all right.It is ok. † †¢ Make a list of all the minor irritations. And find a reason for them not to irritate you anymore. Then cross them off. Do not leave any irritations uncrossed off. In this way you will weaken your anger to the point where you can control it. † †¢ When a hurt-feeling situation arises, get it straightened out as quickly as possible. Don't brood over it for a minute longer than you can help. Do something about it. Do not allow yourself to sulk or indulge in self-pity. Immediately apply the cure Unless you do so the situation can become distorted out of all proportion.So put some spiritual iodine on the hurt at once, by using a healing thought. †¢ Apply grievance drainage to your mind. He gives the example of pouring out your feelings to someone you trust, or to yourself on paper, until â€Å"not a vestige of it remains within you. Then forget it. † †¢ For those who believe in power of prayer he offers this technique: Pray for the person who you feel caused the hurt. Over and over and over until â€Å"†¦ you feel the malice fading away. † He also talks about the importance of relaxing in order to be able to cope and deal with things better.To summarize his tips on relaxation: †¢ Don't get the idea that you are Atlas carrying the world on your shoulders. Don't strain so hard. †¢ Determine to like your work. Then it will become a pleasure not drudgery. †¢ Plan your work–work your plan. †¢ Don't try to do everything at once. Try to do one thing well. †¢ Get a correct mental attitude, remember ing that ease or difficulty in your work depends upon on you think about it. Think it's hard and you make it hard. Think it's easy and it tends to become easy. †¢ Be efficient. †¢ Practice being relaxed. Take things in stride. Discipline yourself not to put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Accumulation of undone jobs makes your work harder. Keep your work up to schedule. On how to have constant energy,  Peale reveals the secret source of energy of every great person he has known: attunement with the Infinite. The knowledge that what one is doing is supported outside oneself and is serving a divine end, provides a constantly renewable source of energy. Working only by oneself and for oneself leads to burnout. Peale asks the readers to try prayer power. According to him,  prayer is different to what you thought it was.It is a space to say whatever is on your mind, in whatever language you choose. Instead of asking for things, give thanks in advance for what you desire, leave it in God's hands, and visualize the good outcome. The Peale formula is ‘Prayerize, Picturize, and Actualize’. Be surprised at its effectiveness. He asks us to expect the best and get it. Fearful creatures that we are, we tend to expect the worst. But an expectation of the best has a way of organizing forces in your favor. You are less likely to keep anything in reserve. The subconscious, which regulates much of our actions, merely reflects your beliefs.Alter the belief about an outcome, and your actions will seem to be shaped in order to achieve it. Peale's phrase is: ‘Doubt closes the power flow. Faith opens it. ‘ New thoughts can remake us. Use only positive and hopeful language for a 24-hour period. Then go back to being ‘realistic' the next day. Repeat this over a week and you find that what you considered realistic a week ago now seems pessimistic. In golfing terms, discover that ‘the rough is only mental'. Your new understand ing of what is realistic moves up to a higher, permanently positive level.
